Recognizing Our Heritage
|
Welcome to AmericanHeritageOnline.com |
We have it in our power to begin the world over again.
A situation, similar to the present, hath not happened since the days of Noah until now.
The birthday of a new world is at hand.
Thomas Paine February 14, 1776
Heritage : something passed down from preceding generations; a tradition.
Why recognize and celebrate our heritage? This nation has provided freedom and opportunity like no other in history. Our founders looked at world history and the nature of government before crafting guidelines that were intended to prevent those in power from infringing on our natural, personal liberties and freedoms. It wasn't a perfect beginning, but it was the beginning of something great.
A free and just society was the objective of our founders. They knew enough about human nature to understand that only a nation where there was no ruling class or dictator creating laws to protect and expand their power could offer its citizens true freedom.
So we elect Representatives who reflect the will of the citizens, and as such, we are self-governed.
This web site is a resource to learn more about why the original concepts penned in our Constitution are still so important. And why it's our responsibility, in a self-governed nation, to be aware and to contribute to protecting the principles that have kept us free, independent, and successful. We must continue to be, as George Washington once said, dutiful citizens.
This is a land of opportunity for those who invest the time, energy, and committment to fulfill their dreams. It's our responsibility to learn more if we want to keep it that way. Opposing forces are aware of this, and they rely on us not understanding in order to make changes in our government which reflect their desires over the will of the people.
